I’m delighted (and humbled) to announce that my story “The Return” will appear in Best Canadian Stories 2027! I’m in great company here and very grateful to editor David Bergen and publisher Biblioasis, as well as Paul Vermeersch and the whole team at The Ampersand Review, where the piece first appeared. I often find myself recommending this series as the place to go for the good stuff so I’m especially tickled to be included. Though it’s an odd one—I think of “The Return” as an extract from a longer work rather than a stand-alone one, so I’m happily surprised, and having to reconsider my ideas about what a short story is.
